Photography in Bristol |
| Bristol has endless photographic opportunities whether you are looking for architecture, wildlife, people, boats, water, history or landscapes. | |
| There are beautiful buildings, both old and new. If you like churches then you are in for a treat in Bristol as there are many old churches here. You can find sculptures and monuments all over the city. There are other architectural features such as the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. | |
| Bristol is a very hilly city so there are plenty of opportunities to get up high for a good panorama. The Cabot Tower gives you a 360 degree view over the city and harbourside. | |
| Bristol was once Britain's third largest port and the city grew up around the docks. Now the harbour has leisure boats moored along the banks, many warehouses have been converted into offices and apartments and there are interesting new buildings. A trip around the harbour in a ferry is highly recommended. There are also two famous ships here - the SS Great Britain and a reproduction of Cabot's boat The Matthew. | |
| It's easy to get out of the city and into the countryside around. Ashton Court Estate has a lot of open grassland and woodland with views across the city. Cycle paths to Bath and Pill have picturesque views and lots of wild flowers along the routes. There are lots of green spaces within the city too. The Downs, Castle Park and lots of small local parks. | |
| You quite often see hot air balloons floating over Bristol but if you want to see them en masse then visit in August for the International Balloon Fiesta. There is a night glow when the balloons are lit up on the ground. | |
| As well as the places mentioned above, other places of interest within the city are the City Museum, the Industrial Museum, at Bristol. | |
| Bath, Glastonbury, Cardiff, the Wye Valley and Gloucester are all within reasonable travelling distance for a day trip. They all offer good photographic opportunities. |
